The Singing Ringing Tree, partly due to its foreignness as both fairy tale and for the unfamiliarity of its German production, was 'indelibly carved on the psyches'of english speaking western cultures who viewed it as one of the most frightening things ever shown as a children's producton. The story they tell has an authentic Brothers Grimm feel, and not at all like the Disney versions of their works. Even Grimm had characters that children can feel comfortable with, but there are none in this outlandish fable. The Prince starts out charming enough and then turns into a bear, and a nasty bear at that. The Princess is spoilt and cruel, and gets turned into something hideous. These are the nearest to a ‘good’ people you get, everyone else seems to be either mad, ugly or an evil dwarf. The giant fish that totally terrified ususpecting kids is actually meant to be ‘friendly’, but the way it looked and moved freaked out most who saw it. It was otherworldly, and not something that anyone would consider comfortable...... this film is a strange and creepy trip indeed.

Quote: "Me and my girlfriend have killed dozens of people over the last years, worthless pieces of filth that won't be missed by anyone. We also captured some of our murders on video for a small group of like-minded people. But killing started to get boring, and so I decided to make my last dream become reality and have my girlfriend video tape it. For ages, I have been dreaming of inflicting actions of hatred and lust on a corpse, and then getting buried next to this last victim. So I kidnapped a 21 year old whore yesterday. I will kill her, bleed her, then let her ripen for four months, in order to commence with my final masterpiece. These are the videos leading up to my last, most depraved act. There is no dialogue in any of these shorts, which tell this story of madness through the actions of the killer. They consist of the following shorts: Snuff Tape 0 - Black & Died (4 min) Snuff Tape 1 - Red (6 min) Snuff Tape 2 - Red & Yellow (10 min) Snuff Tape 3 - Dead, Red & Brown (24 min) Snuff Tape 4 - Dead Fast Food (8 min) Snuff Tape 5 - Final Extreme Suicide (11 min) Snuff Tape 6 - Organ Trade Autopsy (6 min) Snuff Tape 7 - Gore (20 min) The Lost Snuff Tape - Dead Body (7 min)"

FISH STORY is a very strange film. It's a Japanese apocalyptic tale featuring four separate story lines that are woven together in such a way that'll have you scratching your head and trying to figure out how they all intertwine. Based on a novel by Kotaro Isaka, Fish Story weaves together several seemingly separate storylines taking place at different points in time over a 37-year span to explain how a little-known punk rock song can save the world. In 1975, an unpopular Japanese punk band called Gekirin (Wrath) break up soon after recording their final song: Fish Story. In 1982 a timid college student named Masashi (Gaku Hamada) becomes fascinated by strange rumors surrounding the song. In 2009 a teenager named Asami (Mikako Tabe) falls asleep during a school field trip and gets left behind on a boat which is taken over by terrorists. In 2012 a huge comet can be seen in the sky on a path to destroy Earth. How does a little punk song connect all these events?

Cronenberg, Surreal, Experimental, Shocking, Short Film, Cult, Sci-Fi, Horror; Arrow Video Blu-ray - New Sealed
One of the most singular auteurs of the horror and science fiction genres, David Cronenberg has wowed audiences with his depictions of body transformations and explorations of society, this collection of his early short and feature films shows a master learning his craft and exploring many of the themes that would dominate his most celebrated work. Transfer (1966), Cronenberg’s first short film, is a surreal sketch of a doctor and his patient. From the Drain (1967) finds two men in a bathtub, which may be part of a centre for veterans of a future war. Stereo (1969), Cronenberg’s first official feature film, stunningly shot in monochrome, concerns telepaths at the Institute for Erotic Enquiry where patients undergo tests by Dr. Luther Stringfellow. In Crimes of the Future (1970) Cronenberg worked in colour and with a larger budget, where we find the House of Skin clinic director (Ronald Mlodzik, returning from Stereo) searching for his mentor, Antoine Rouge, who has disappeared following a catastrophic plague. Cronenberg’s early amateur feature films, shot in and around his university campus, prefigure his later films’ concerns with strange institutions, male/female separation and ESP, echoing the likes of Videodrome, Dead Ringers and Scanners.
