THE SAVAGE PLANET (1973); DVD
DVD Surreal Animation, New
This is a surrealist French animation from the 70s, and that's pretty much the sum-up of its description: Surreal, 70s, and French. Animations like this are quite rare, not only is it completely psychedelic, the intent was political in nature, though by these days the movie has toned down a bit. It is in fact a really pretty animation because of its use of colors and design, which for me is a lot more interesting than its historical value. For fans of animation of different types, it's a must see, but also for those who crave the underground psychedelic aspects of the 70s era.
THE COLOUR OF POMEGRANATES (Special Edition) DVD
DVD; Surreal (Sergei Paradjanov) 1969
Sergei Paradjanov's celebrated, dreamlike masterpiece paints an astonishing portrait of the 18th century Armenian poet Sayat Nova, the 'King of Song'. Paradjanov's aim was not a conventional biography but a cinematic expression of his work, resulting in an extraordinary visual poem. Key moments in his subject's life are illustrated through a series of exquisitely orchestrated tableaux filled with rich colour and stunning iconography, each scene a celluloid painting alive with sylised movement. One of cinema's most revered and beautiful films, The Colour of Pomegranates is a unique and rewarding experience that haunts the memory long after viewing... Extensive Bonus Features: Introduction by writer and filmmaker Daniel Bird; 'The World Is A Window: Making The Colour of Pomegranates' - a new documentary by Daniel Bird; Memories of Sayat Nova; Commentary by Levon Abrahamyan moderated by Daniel Bird; New improved subtitles.

MEET THE FEEBLES (1989) Peter Jackson; DVD
DVD; New
Cool puppetry and a whacked out plot make this New Zealand effort on par with some of the best cult films today. There are animals of all shapes, sizes, colors, and ethnicities; some are into money, others are into dancing, and then there are others who are into porn, coke, and feces. This film is rude, gross, demented, and hilarious. Peter Jackson's pre Hollywood glory days....ordinary people just don't make films this warped. Unfortunately, we will never see films of this quality from Peter Jackson again.
NEKROMANTIK 2 (Jorg Buttgereit) 1991; DVD
Limited Edition 2 disc box set (Barrel entertainment), New
This is quite a beautiful course of death, and I should like to think that those who became enamored of Nekromantik, also here should find a maggoty morsel or two, to satiate their rotten pallets. I certainly did. Necrophilia has no favorites, and this time around, the haunts are reserved for the ladies. And who ever said that a corpse is worse off in the tender and dismembering hands of a woman, than in a mans'? This destructive little thing tells the tale of Monika, a nurse, whose greatest wish when coming home, after caring for her patients, is to have an absolutely still and passive face to greet her lovingly. And what better cadaverous candidate, than good old Rob whose been nursing coffin-boards for the last five years? A beautiful relationship soon evolves, and in the loving hands of Monika, Rob soon learns how to part with those tiresome appendages one calls legs, arms and head. While I find the end sequence in Nekromantik rewarding and special, nothing had prepared me for the end sequence in Nekromantik 2. The first time I saw it, it blew me away. Even if you are a seasoned gore-hound, I can almost guarantee you that you have never seen an ending as bloody and bizarre as this! Fucking excellent! And of course the musical score is brilliant....
CENTIPEDE HORROR (1982); DVD
DVD, Hong Kong, (Frolic Pictures - Grindhouse series) New
After his sister dies under mysterious circumstances while on vacation, Wai Lun decides to take matters into his own hands. Soon enough, he discovers a family curse, battling wizards, and centipedes — lots and lots of centipedes. Written by Suet Ming Chan (making this one of the only Hong Kong Category III horror movies written by a woman) and filled with creepy crawlies, melodrama, evil spirits and insect-barfing, CENTIPEDE HORROR is a true discovery for adventurous horror-fiends. Never released legitimately on home video in the U.S., This DVD is repressed from the only 35mm film print in existence. Also of note, there is a great bit of moody 80s synthesizer work in here, which sounds awfully familiar to something from El-p's 'Fantastic Damage' album.
LUTHER THE GEEK; DVD
DVD (1989), New
As a young child Luther The Geek or "The Freak" witnesses a band of men goading a geek (a man who bites off chicken's heads and drinks the blood) into performing. In the ensuing hullabaloo, Luther bites his lip and likes the taste of blood. Flash forward some thirty years and a parole board is meeting to discuss Luther's release. It seems the cheeky blighter has been murdering folk in the meantime. A dopey parole board trainee sides with the liberals and so Luther is unleashed, except now he has a special pair of customised metal teeth. Luther then proceeds to "bite the heads off" of many hapless folk until the tense ending. This movie is most notable for it's bare dialogue, whole stretches pass without a sound. Most of the audio is composed of Luther clucking insanely like a chicken.
SMOKE 'EM IF YOU GOT 'EM; DVD
Special Edition DVD (1988), New
SMOKE ‘EM IF YOU GOT ‘EM is a long lost post-apocalyptic Aussie cult classic – a nuke and puke masterpiece for the post-punk crowd – set slap bang in the middle of Melbourne’s 80’s underground music scene. Starring Nique Needles (DOGS IN SPACE). In the smouldering devastation of post nuclear bomb-blasted Melbourne, a periscope protruding from a pile of rubble leads three desperate scavengers to a subterranean fall-out shelter. They muscle their way in, only to discover a raging party in a converted wine cellar, celebrating the Big Meltdown. There’s a band, booze, sex, drugs and a horde of sweat-soaked revellers partying like there is no tomorrow… which for these poor radiation-drenched end-of-the-worlders there isn’t. What choice do the scroungers have but to join in?
This special "Bong and Bang Cocktail" edition comes with over 3 hours of extra features including commentaries, interviews, music video’s short films and more…
THE GREASY STRANGLER; DVD
DVD (2016), New
The Los Angeles-set tale follows Ronnie, a man who runs a Disco Walking tour along with his browbeaten son, Brayden. When a sexy, alluring woman comes to take the tour, it begins a competition between father and son for her attentions. It also signals the appearance of an oily, slimy inhuman maniac who stalks the streets at night and strangles the innocent, soon dubbed 'The Greasy Strangler.' Be warned, this film is fucking weird and quite gross. And lots of gratuitous nudity. You will tell your mates about it. Watch it, you'll be glad you did.
Rated R: High impact themes, violence, sex, nudity and coarse language
BLOODLUST; DVD
DVD (1992), New
Three vampires wander the streets of Melbourne killing, screwing and taking drugs. They decide to carry out a heist, stealing three million and attracting the attention of various psychotics, who chase them through a blood spattered odyssey into the Melbourne underground. Think of early Peter Jackson ('Bad Taste') but even more inept and downright crazy. It's cheap, off-kilter exploitation involving buckets of ultra-violence, soft-core sex and maniac dialogues. The extras are fantastic. This movie has one of the best trailers you will ever see on a low budget horror film. In the US, a VHS tape bootlegger used to sell NTSC copies of this at horror shows in Chicago, right after this came out on tape in PAL. The dealer ran a trailer of this on a TV he had on his table. Apparently he sold out a whole box of tapes of 'Bloodlust' within minutes of the show opening, based just on the trailer.
RUN BITCH RUN!; DVD
DVD (2009), New
Catherine and Rebecca are two Catholic school girls going door-to-door selling religious paraphernalia in order to pay for their books and education. Things go horribly wrong when they knock on the wrong door in the wrong neighborhood. "Run! Bitch Run!" is a throwback to the classic rape and revenge films like The Last House on the Left and I spit on your Grave.
2011 Australian DVD release. Rated R: High impact sexual violence and violence
ABC'S OF DEATH 2; DVD
2 x DVD (2014), New
Like the first film, the sequel is divided into 26 individual chapters, each helmed by a different director assigned a letter of the alphabet. The directors were then given free rein in choosing a word to create a story involving death. The varieties of death range from accidents to murders. The movie begins with a creepy stop-motion storybook that opens showing children doing a variety of fun activities that end up being very deadly (i.e. a jump rope slices a girl in half, children playing ball with a boy's head and a girl on a swing made from a boy's intestines). Throughout the film, a teacher with a skeleton face presents the titles to all the segments, with each of the segments ending and beginning with a focus on, or a fade into, the color black.
Here is an example: T is for Torture Porn (Jen and Sylvia Soska)
Yumi is being filmed by a group of misogynistic and abusive filmmakers. The men strip her down and prepare to film her, when one of them spots what they think is a penis. Yumi then reveals that she has tentacles where her clitoris should be and proceeds to kill the filmmakers.
Rated R: High impact horror themes, violence, sexual violence and nudity
