Last Exit Entertainment proudly bring Andrey Iskanov’s epic juggernaut of extreme cinema, Philosophy of a Knife, to European DVD with this special edition, filled with exclusive bonus materials and footage never previously seen. At the end of World War II the Russian Army enter Japanese-occupied Manchuria and discover Unit 731. A prisoner of war camp where they realize horrendous crimes have taken place when they find documentation of experiments performed on the prisoners. Experiments so horrific that they immediately get stamped as confidential. Through interviews with doctor and military translator Anatoly Protasov, archive material and reconstructions, Andrey Iskanov creates an overwhelming and powerful story that takes us into the dark heart of Unit 731, force feeding us the gruesome experiments performed in the good name of science. Philosophy of a Knife is a story of human atrocities, but it is also the story of Unit 731 staff questioning their role in these merciless experiments. Quick cuts, loud music, horrific images and Iskanov’s stylistic surrealism all come together in this 256minute documentation of the vileness of man. Disturbing, Nacho Cerda, Cult, Underground, Horror, Arthouse, RARE!, Collection; 3 Film DVD Box - Ex Used condition
Wonderful trilogy of short films on the theme of death from Spanish director Nacho Cerdà. Cerda's films here are striking and intense. Featuring magnificent cinematography, these films project the viewer, without any real dialogue, into the world of death. “Aftermath” is truly disturbing and sometimes unbearable, but Cerda manages to make a horrible moment (the necrophilic inclinations of a forensic doctor...) into a somewhat aesthetic moment... Those familiar with Cerda's work will want this. Rare find in Australia, this 3 film DVD box is a nice item indeed....
Pierre Henry, Musique Concrete, Avant-Garde, Noise, Experimental, Composition; DVD - New
An essential video to discover Pierre Henry's rich work through his words of the often rare and precious archives taken from the depth of a long career, from the composer's early days with Pierre Schaffer until the 2000s. Pierre Henry appears not only as the great musician we know, but also as a visual artist creating amazing reliefs paintings in which he reconverts elements detached from his old instruments, mixing consoles, etc., according to a very singular artistic approach. Henry is visited by the film team on the occasion of a house concert, so you get a kind of “home story” which, thanks to many insights into Henry's work, has been extremely interesting. There are also excerpts from several concerts and long interview passages. This is how the portrait of a mysterious, fascinating musician is created. In addition to the main film, the DVD also features a complete performance from 2005, the recording of a rehearsal (uncut, very interesting to see Henry adjusts to room acoustics) and a short film from the 1960s, in which Henry contributed music and image editing.
Mondo, Shockumentary, Gruesome, Horror, Gore, Autobiography, Shockumentary, Classic, Legendary; Paperback Book - 76 pages (2014) - New
This autobiographical book is written by John Alan Schwartz, the maker of the legendary original 'Faces Of Death' film, who passed away in 2019. It certainly contains enough weirdness, sex and gruesomeness to keep you wanting more. The incidents within are described in a very simple style with a sort of "only the good parts" kind of ethos. If you're a fan of the movie and want to know something about the drug-addled mind behind the making of it, this is where it's at.
Studio Canal Exclusive Limited Edition Steelbook, Horror, Serial Killer - Ex Used condition (With Card Sleeve)
Released from prison following his mother's murder. Henry supplements his job as an exterminator with a series of violent, indiscriminate murders. Crazed drug dealer and fellow jailbird Otis provides Henry with a willing accomplice in his grisly pursuits but as the depravity escalates and Henry begins to form a tentative bond with Otis' sister Becky events spiral towards a chilling and violent conclusion. Based on the harrowing true story of convicted mass-murderer Henry Lee Lucas , John McNaughtonis Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer is one of the most remarkable films in the crowded serial killer genre. Impressively building to a disquieting and horrific climax, the film provides a sobering and nightmarish glimpse into a deranged and damaged mind. A bona-fide cult classic that is presented here for the first time in its entirety and as the director intended: it's a startling, morally complex and frequently uncompromising work of genuine daring and vision.
