THE UKRAINIANS; A short hisrory of rock music in Ukranian
LP, Limited Edition, Numbered (2015), New
By mixing snatches of Ukrainian folk melodies alongside a driving rhythm section, whistles, accordion, mandolins and fiddle, 'The Ukranians' weave counter-intuitive cacophonies of barely contained chaos. And the vocals! Oh, the vocals! If you ever wondered what may be the connection between Nirvana, the Mamas and the Papas, and Kraftwerk, well, wonder no more: it’s Ukrainian. Other artists with their material transformed include Led Zeppelin, Iggy Pop, and R.E.M., with reprises of their Smiths and Sex Pistols songs. Hell, they even manage to pull off “Back in the USSR,” a slightly too obvious choice, but here bludgeoned successfully into submission.

ZOMBY; Gasp!
12" EP (2017), New
On GASP!, Zomby provokes us yet again with straightforward techno, though it's not without its eccentricities. GASP! still retains the aloof flamboyance that's become Zomby's calling card—even if that aloofness can sometimes resemble laziness.

THEM BONERS BE POPPIN'; V/A comp
LP (1985), Used
Here's a great comp out of the bay area. Boner Records out of Berkeley, California put this one out in 1985. It features some great tracks from Verbal Abuse, Fang, The Boneless Ones and others. A really good record.... I especially love the subtitle on the cover:
"Self indulgent rock stars feed their hopelessly overblown egos while we exploit them for every penny they're worth."
This is the original 1985 'Boner Records' press.

THE BIG SOUNDS OF THE DRAGS; LP
LP (1963), Used
This LP is an audio document of Drag racing in the 60's and it's the best shit ever......
A 26-minute feast for the ears for fans of early 1960s drag racing, The Big Sounds of the Drags was produced by Jim Economides and featured quarter-mile passes captured by professional recording equipment. Side one of this album begins with a condensed history of drag racing. The titled sections of the LP are introduced by the narrator. For instance, the explanation of "Stock Cars" is followed by the sound of stockers blazing down the strip, interspersed with actual tower announcements from each race. The same treatment was then given to the "Roadsters." Side two is from the 1962 Winternationals at Pomona, California, with lots of passes and track announcements. Narration is minimal, but "Elimination" is introduced. A showdown between famed racers Jack Chrisman and Tom McEwen is also featured in this section, along with others.
