CONSUMER ELECTRONICS: Estuary English; Gatefold Double Vinyl LP + CD (2014)

$110.00

Electronic, Experimental, Power Electronics, Noise, Ambient, Industrial; Gatefold 2xVinyl LP + CD – Ex Used condition

Russell Haswell joins Philip Best’s Consumer Electronics for the face-melting force of ‘Estuary Electronics’. Following on from the Mattin-produced ‘Crowd Pleaser’ (2009), it finds the pioneering duo at their most virile and vital across seven tracks rife with sputtering tech-n0!se and, of course, Best’s spray it, don’t say it delivery. It’s a cruel, vicious fucker and therein lies its charm in showing up most of their field as dilettantes. Between the flatulent jag of ‘Teknon’ to the staggering, ‘floor bleaching force of ‘Co-opted’ or the ‘Air Lock’ monologue that seals the final side, it delivers visceral thrills in a way most others can’t compete with. And it’s all the more powerful for its reduced and optimised palette – vocals, spatter drums and eviscerated electronics stoically delivered with real venom where it matters. For adventurous DJs, proper wrong ‘uns, and the noise brigade, it’s stone cold essential.

SILENCE AND STRENGTH: Le Divin Cagliostro; CD (2005) The Eastern Front

$12.00
The Eastern Front, Dark Ambient, Noise, Neo-Folk, Occult, Czech Republic; (2005) Limited Numbered CD - Ex Used condition
A great deal of mysteries revolve around the historical figure of Count Alessandro di Cagliostro (1743-1795); from his questioned identity as a charlatan called Joseph Balsam (or is it Giuseppe Balsamo?), to the unknown information about the “Egyptian Rites” Freemasonry (and Freemasonry in general) and the rituals it is said to include which are inspired by the ancient Egyptian culture.  This album seems to be a tribute to his colorful life in the form of dark ambient with noise, narrated samples and some folk music; just the kind of album you’d want to research about.  The album seems like a journey through Cagliostro’s life (or is it his attempt for an afterlife?)  There is much to investigate here, and the deeper you go the less you’ll understand.  It’s hard to find information about this act, since it’s an unknown debut album, so all I can say is that someone called Stephan V. Friedman wrote the lyrics and music and that there is a limited amount of copies.

BORBETOMAGUS and VOICE CRACK: Concerto For Cracked Everyday Electronics And Chamber Orchestra; CD (1997)

$32.00
Experimental, Jazz, Improv, Electronic, Noise, Improvised, Free, Knitting Factory; CD (1997) The Knitting Factory was a venue in New York City that had a policy where bands were not allowed to record their own sets. They could only pay the venue to record for them. The rumor is that this album by the double-trio of Borbetomagus (truly one of the top three two-saxophones-and-guitar bands in all of New York) and Voice Crack (Swiss electronics duo + Knut Remond of 16-17 and UnknownmiX) refused to play along with that bullshit, so they discreetly recorded their own set and put it out with this puffery: "Recorded live at Carnegie Recital Hall, New York on May 26, 1994", hence the bloated faux-classical title. Which is very funny. The music is blistering as you might expect.

HUGO RACE AND THE TRUE SPIRIT; Rue Morgue Blues

$55.00
HUGO RACE AND THE TRUE SPIRIT; Rue Morgue Blues LP (1987), Used Rue Morgue Blues is a perfect title for the tenebrous kind of Gothic blues Hugo Race performs on his debut album. But among the many that play Gothic rock Hugo Race occupies a special place – he’s on the avant-garde top of this high and bleak crag. And every song is a tiara shining with its own unique jewels. Saxophone opening “Rue Morgue Blues” is magnanimously fabulous and the song itself is no less than public flagellation.  Murky, industrialised gothic blues a deeper shade of dark than anything The Bad Seeds ever quite managed. Music to hide bodies to.
