With 'Lounge Lizards', Purling Hiss has tapped into a trashy aesthetic that's part of rock'n'roll's DNA. They have got introspective druggy tunes and riff-heavy party songs, both of which romanticize the brilliance of a scuzzy rock burnout. But "burnout" is as good a word as any to convey their brand of rock grit, which is slathered in cruddy production and with a hard emphasis on shredding.
Lounge Lizards' six tracks serve as a logical follow up to the bands previous release 'Public Service Announcement' which was also a meeting of catchy hooks and awful production quality. Of course, the sound is presumably intentional and serves a few purposes on the EP, it dampens screams, accents enormous guitar solos, adds density to an already dark song, and muffles instruments' sounds so they bleed together. The effect defines Purling Hiss' sound.

Gang Gang Dance's first release for 4AD. This double A-side 12” "Glass Jar / MindKilla". Recorded with long-term collaborator Chris Coady (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Zola Jesus, Beach House and TV On The Radio), "Eye Contact" 's opening track "Glass Jar" begins with the brief declaration "I can hear everything. It's everything time", and then morphs effortlessly into an audacious eleven- minute slow-burner. The anthemic "MindKilla" offers a more melodic and succinct Gang Gang Dance, led by the distinct vocals of Lizzi Bougatsos. Released as a special edition 12” in deluxe sleeve.
ROBIN FOX; A Small Prometheus

Melbourne based experimental producer Robin Fox released this six track LP on 'Editions Mego' in 2015. An album of music created to soundtrack a dance piece developed with choreographer Stephanie Lake. As the label explains, A Small Prometheus explores “themes of combustion and heat dissipating in various physical systems,” using a synthesis of electronic and acoustic sources.

ALICE; (Jan Svankmajer) DVD

Alice is a 1988 surrealist dark fantasy film written and directed by Jan Svankmajer Its original Czech title is Něco z Alenky, which means "Something from Alice". It is a loose adaptation of Louis Carrol's first Alice book, Alice's adventures in Wonderland(1865), about a girl who follows a white rabbit into a bizarre fantasy land. The film combines live action with stop motion animation, and is distinguished by its dark and uncompromising production design.
For Švankmajer, a prolific surrealsit director of short films for more than two decades, Alice became his first feature length film. The director had been disappointed by other adaptations of Carroll's book, which interpret it as a fairy tale. His aim was instead to make the story play out like a darkly disturbing amoral dream. The film has been widely praised and is certainly an astonishing film.
