Manuel Alvarez Bravo – Photo poche n°137; Book

$10.00
Art, Photography, Mexican; Book (Used)
Manuel Alvarez Bravo (1902-2002) is undoubtedly the tutelary figure of Mexican photography. In many ways,
much of his work reads like the exact mirror of a country and even more of a civilization. From Mexico, he
explored everything, showed everything, interpreted everything without ever yielding to the picturesque: from
the mythical sites of the Mayan civilization to the muralist frescoes through the dramas of the Zapatista
revolution (cf. The murdered worker), he passionately questioned the essence, the texture, the subtle alchemy
of a country and a nation of which he paints the definitive philosophical portrait.

True Norwegian Black Metal; Hardcover Book (2009)

$180.00
Over the last almost three decades, a bizarre and violent musical subculture called Black Metal emerged in Norway. In the early-mid 1990s, members of this extremist underground committed murder, burned down medieval wooden churches, and desecrated graveyards. What started as juvenile frenzy came to symbolize the start of a war against Christianity, a return to the worship of the ancient Norse gods, and the complete rejection of mainstream society. American documentary photographer Peter Beste has spent the last eight years working in the milieu of this insulated and secretive community. Beste’s access and insight has been absolutely without precedent, resulting in an amazing photographic journey. Large scale, beautifully presented, Limited edition of 666 copies. New.

TAKASHI NEMOTO: Monster Men Bureiko Lullaby; Paperback

$185.00
TAKASHI NEMOTO: Monster Men Bureiko Lullaby; Paperback 194 pages Controversial/Underground/Japanese/Comic/Manga/Obscene, Paperback - RARE! If you can't tell from the cover and synopsis, the book is fairly obscene. The humor is sub-scatological. The drawing style is brutally ugly. But it is an incredibly unique and entertaining work that is well worth your time. Nothing escapes Nemoto's scathing, misanthropic satire here, from radiation victims to hyper-masculinity - even the manga industry itself gets torn apart.  This is an absolute must for any lover of underground and alternative comics, or outsider art in general. You will have never read anything like it.  A seminal work of manga from the mid-1980s, Monster Men Bureiko Lullaby is a Candide-esque tale--if you can picture Candide as a mutated sperm brought to life by radioactivity. Unremittingly explicit, direct, honest and insightful while simultaneously beautiful and grotesque.  Due to his unapologetically squalid subject matter, surreal drawing style and pessimistic, satirical stance, Nemoto has long been a controversial figure in Japan.
