THAT’S BLAXPLOITATION: Roots of the Badasssss’ Tude; Paperback Book (Darius James) 1995

$55.00
Blaxploitation, Exploitation, Provocative, Culture, Underground, Cult; Paperback Book - Ex Used condition James's own baadasssss 'tude hasn't backpedaled a bit since he gave the world a hotfoot in his first novel, Negrophobia, four years ago. Now, in step with the pop African American icons of the '70s he celebrates in this crass but wickedly funny survey/memoir, the author struts and jives his way through an energetic hodgepodge of interviews, reminiscences and original fiction. The offerings here range from the essay "The Blackman's Guide to White Women with the Amazing Power of Voodoo" through a high-toned interview with blaxploitation goddess Pam Grier to James's musings on the influence on his life of books by Iceberg Slim, author of Pimp. The numerous sidebars alone, which offer capsule reviews and/or plot summaries of scores of blaxploitation films from Shaft to Cleopatra Jones and The Black Gestapo, make this a classic of psychotronic scholarship. James's 'tude grates at times?for example, his insistence on calling whites "whytes"?but his apparent aim is to provoke more than denigrate, and he incorporates the work of several white artists, most prominently that of cartoonist Ralph Bakshi, into his raucous mix. Given its subject, this eclectic, iconoclastic, profusely illustrated work is just as it should be: a savvy, smirking toss of a black gauntlet at white middle-class values and culture.

FLYING SAUCERS ROCK ‘N’ ROLL: Conversations with Unjustly Obscure Rock ‘n’ Soul Eccentrics; Paperback Book (Jake Austen)

$35.00
Weird, Obscure, Outsider, Psychedelic, Music, Underground, Forgotten; Paperback Book, Steve Albini - Ex Used condition For nearly twenty years, the much-beloved music magazine Roctober has featured work by some of the best underground cartoonists, exhaustive examinations of made-up genres such as “robot rock,” and an ongoing exploration of everything Sammy Davis Jr. ever sang, said, or did. But the heart of the magazine has always been the lengthy conversations with overlooked or forgotten artists. Flying Saucers Rock ’n’ Roll gathers the most compelling of these interviews. Eccentric, important artists—including the rockabilly icon Billy Lee Riley, the jazz musician and activist Oscar Brown Jr., the “Outlaw Country” singer David Allan Coe, and the pioneer rock ’n’ roll group the Treniers—give the most in-depth interviews of their lengthy careers. Obscure musicians, such as the Armenian-language novelty artist Guy Chookoorian and the frustrated interstellar glam act Zolar X, reveal fascinating lives lived at rock’s margins. Roctober’s legendarily dedicated writers convey telling anecdotes in the fervent, captivating prose that has long been appreciated by music enthusiasts. Along with the entertaining interviews, Flying Saucers Rock ’n’ Roll features more than sixty images from the pages of Roctober and ten illustrations created for the book by the underground rock ’n’ roll artist King Merinuk. Intoduction by Steve Albini

ERICA POMERANCE: You Used To Think; CD (ESP)

$50.00
Cult, Underground, Outsider, Folk, Psychedelic, Lo-fi, Acid, Free Form, Underground; CD - Ex Used condition YOU USED TO THINK is one of those rarities of pure inspiration that rates up there with first platters by the MC5, Stooges, Fugs, Velvet Underground, Silver Apples, Godz, Pearls Before Swine, etc... a classic ‘68 underground album: a collage of fucked-up eastern ragas, jazz, and atonal folk rock, delivered in a beautiful, raspy, feverish, drug-induced howl, featuring the poetry and singular voice of Erica Pomerance. ESP produced more than its share of outsider visions and here was an album more like a situation, that peeked inside and outside the bullcrap of the music world and the various genres it endlessly pumps out. The album goes in and out of consciousness, presenting an oblique postmodern Caligarian world, teetering on destruction, possession, beauty and revolt. Pomerance will make you think. She is the real fairy godmother of free-rock and the acid-folk movement. Her global post-rock attitude is bold and triumphant, unpredictable, spitting out ironic anthems, anti-anthems, zen metaphors, surrealist flower-power, humor, knowledge and razorblade street slang.

THE SINGING RINGING TREE; DVD

$30.00
Infamous, Cult, Creepy, Surreal, Weird, Childrens, Dark, Foreign; DVD - New / Sealed The Singing Ringing Tree, partly due to its foreignness as both fairy tale and for the unfamiliarity of its German production, was 'indelibly carved on the psyches'of english speaking western cultures who viewed it as one of the most frightening things ever shown as a children's producton.  The story they tell has an authentic Brothers Grimm feel, and not at all like the Disney versions of their works. Even Grimm had characters that children can feel comfortable with, but there are none in this outlandish fable.  The Prince starts out charming enough and then turns into a bear, and a nasty bear at that. The Princess is spoilt and cruel, and gets turned into something hideous. These are the nearest to a ‘good’ people you get, everyone else seems to be either mad, ugly or an evil dwarf. The giant fish that totally terrified ususpecting kids is actually meant to be ‘friendly’, but the way it looked and moved freaked out most who saw it. It was otherworldly, and not something that anyone would consider comfortable...... this film is a strange and creepy trip indeed.

THE GEROGERIGEGEGE: Live Greatest Hits; CD (1991) Rare Japanoise!

$100.00

Rare, Japanese, Noise, Experimental, Live , Performance Art, Japanoise, Offensive; CD (original 1991release) - Ex Used condition

Live Greatest Hits is an album by The Gerogerigegege released on Juntaro's own VIS A VIS AUDIO ARTS label in 1991. This album is a collection of three live performances from 1991, 1990, and 1987. The main audio in this albumconsists of a 51 year old exhibitionist moaning as he jacks off live in front of a crowd, with additional live audio and tweaking by Juntaro. One thing sets the Gerogerigegege apart from other bands/artists of the time was a somewhat regular masturbation theme. Either songs based on wanking, or as in this case, songs that are audio recordings of wanking. This is certainly a far more experimental approach than GG Allin's masturbations sessions release. In this album Gero 30, who is performing here a composition by Juntaro, moans and masturbates through the entire album,  sometimes screaming/shouting as well. Accompanying him is a drum machine and some other elctronic fuckery. This is certainlyan awesome album from this legendary experimental noise band. Like the rest of these ultra limited Japanoise releases, the prices are skyrocketing.....

THE GEROGERIGEGEGE: Senzuri Power Up-Unreleased studio track 1985/86; CD (1991)

$100.00
Japanese, Experimental, Noise, Japanoise, Punk, Harsh, Juntaro, Gerogerigegege; CD (1991) - Ex Used condition Yet another infamous balls to the wall blast of pure frenzied noise from this Japanoise legend. This disc is loaded with fucking excrutiating noise punk tracks. The liner notes contain a clean and clear gerogerigegege discography leading up to the release of this album. The sound of an old japanese pop song starts the whole CD off before it violently jerks into a full frontal feedback laden attack on the senses. The album flows together well as all the tracks sort of bleed into one another. The main instruments of choice (aside from juntaro's tortured japanese-man-caught-on-fire screams) seem to simply be guitar, bass, and drums, albeit churned deep into the cesspool. The song titles alone are worth the soaring prices that these original older Japanoise releses are fetching. The track 'car sex macdonald drive in let's go,' which happens to be the album's epic orgasmic peak, speaks for itself. This disc is totally indispensible. Put up by Juntaro's own 'VIS A VIS' audio arts label 1991.
