Pierre Henry, Musique Concrete, Avant-Garde, Noise, Experimental, Composition; DVD - New
An essential video to discover Pierre Henry's rich work through his words of the often rare and precious archives taken from the depth of a long career, from the composer's early days with Pierre Schaffer until the 2000s. Pierre Henry appears not only as the great musician we know, but also as a visual artist creating amazing reliefs paintings in which he reconverts elements detached from his old instruments, mixing consoles, etc., according to a very singular artistic approach. Henry is visited by the film team on the occasion of a house concert, so you get a kind of “home story” which, thanks to many insights into Henry's work, has been extremely interesting. There are also excerpts from several concerts and long interview passages. This is how the portrait of a mysterious, fascinating musician is created. In addition to the main film, the DVD also features a complete performance from 2005, the recording of a rehearsal (uncut, very interesting to see Henry adjusts to room acoustics) and a short film from the 1960s, in which Henry contributed music and image editing.

"Bad Dreams" is a classic 80's horror/slasher flick with plenty of blood and gore including knife through hand and some nasty self-mutilation. Lamond. CENTRESPREAD: In a world at the brink of the 21st century, where strict social stratification is rigidly enforced, where spending power is related to social utility rather than to productivity, and the only manifestation of violence is in magazine pages, a photographer whose special talent is mixing violence and sex, is told to find a new girl whose freshness will rejuvenate the pages of the magazine. Gerard (Paul Trahair) not only fulfils his task but also rediscovers innocence and a world left behind by advancing technology when he uncovers Niki (Kylie Foster, Quigley Down Under). But love is not in the Editor's plans and he offers Niki a choice - stardom or the love of a redundant photographer....The directorial debut of Tony Peterson (veteran Ozploitation editor behind Mad Max, Fantasm Comes Again and The Survivor) Centrespread depicts an ominous new society where old-fashioned love battles against sexual availability in a world invaded by rules, regulations and computer control.
Cronenberg, Surreal, Experimental, Shocking, Short Film, Cult, Sci-Fi, Horror; Arrow Video Blu-ray - New Sealed
One of the most singular auteurs of the horror and science fiction genres, David Cronenberg has wowed audiences with his depictions of body transformations and explorations of society, this collection of his early short and feature films shows a master learning his craft and exploring many of the themes that would dominate his most celebrated work. Transfer (1966), Cronenberg’s first short film, is a surreal sketch of a doctor and his patient. From the Drain (1967) finds two men in a bathtub, which may be part of a centre for veterans of a future war. Stereo (1969), Cronenberg’s first official feature film, stunningly shot in monochrome, concerns telepaths at the Institute for Erotic Enquiry where patients undergo tests by Dr. Luther Stringfellow. In Crimes of the Future (1970) Cronenberg worked in colour and with a larger budget, where we find the House of Skin clinic director (Ronald Mlodzik, returning from Stereo) searching for his mentor, Antoine Rouge, who has disappeared following a catastrophic plague. Cronenberg’s early amateur feature films, shot in and around his university campus, prefigure his later films’ concerns with strange institutions, male/female separation and ESP, echoing the likes of Videodrome, Dead Ringers and Scanners.
Mondo, Shockumentary, Mixtape, Gore, Real Footage, Disturbing; Zine + 3 DVD-R set - New
Mondo Mysterium is a monthly published U.S. zine showcasing marginalized mondo films (and the occasional shockumentary or other fellow traveler) that been somewhat neglected (which will mean they have never had a DVD release, or at least not the particular version) and are deserving of recognition for their contribution to the genre. Each month, the zine comes with three curated DVD-R's of obscure and unreleased mondo films from the Mondo Mysterium collection archive, complete with essays about the selected films.
The three DVD-R titles included with in Mondo Mysterium Vol 2 are the esoteric mondo film 'Il piacere e il mistero' (1964); one of the more obscure US shockumentaries, 'The Underbelly of America' (1998); and finally something extra special: 'Death Fest' (ca. 1996), a '90s homebrewed gore mixtape.
Jim O'Rourke, Documentary, Experimental, Special Edition; 3 Disc set + Booklet + Extras - Ex Used condition
"The Creeping Garden" is a feature length documentary exploring the work of fringe scientists, mycologists and artists, and their relationship with the extraordinary plasmodial slime mold. This is not a documentary for everyone. Granted, documentaries themselves are an acquired taste, but this is not the sort that has a lot of action, preaches social justice, or focuses on a forgotten piece of history. Even if we classify it as a nature documentary, it may not appeal to the same people who enjoy lions hunting giraffes. That disclaimer aside, hopefully you are not scared off, because this is a one of a kind film about a topic you probably never considered before. This is where nature meets science, which meets art, and even psychology and a little bit of history. Who knew that one of the most beautiful things on earth is mold? Special mention has to be made of the soundtrack / film score from Jim O'Rourke, which Arrow Video has so kindly included with their release. I actually listened to the score before watching the movie, and it really sets the tone. You feel like you are slowly entering an alien landscape that is both friendly, but somehow terrifying... foreign, and still welcoming. It is a score like no other. I wish more films were released with their soundtracks. Grindhouse Releasing is very good about this (thank you, Bob Murawski) so maybe Arrow is following their lead? If the soundtrack alone was not reason enough to pick up the Arrow release, the copious amount of bonus features should be. We have audio commentary by directors Tim Grabham and Jasper Sharp, essentially doubling the information. There is "Biocomputer Music", a short film by Grabham on the first biocomputer music system, allowing a two-way musical dialogue between man and slime mold. "Return to the Fungarium", a featurette revealing further treasures of the fungarium at Kew Gardens. "Feeding Habits of Physarum", a featurette on the feeding preferences and dislikes of slime molds. If that is still not enough, there are still three cinema iloobia short films: "Milk" (2009), "Rotten" (2012) and "Paramusical Ensemble"
